Updating Your Spring Window Treatments: Options For You

Home & Garden Blog

As the winter weather finally begins to subside and the chill finally leaves the air, making way for the warmth and sunshine of spring, you likely begin to think about all of the ways you want to enjoy this improved weather. Additionally, you want your home to reflect the new season and attitude that you have about it. Your window treatments are one of the best places to start when you are trying to bring spring into your home. Get to know some of the ways that you can best update your window treatments for spring so that you can enjoy the view even more as everything begins to blossom and bloom once again.

Invest In Nicer Window Blinds

While the basic aluminum window blinds are quite inexpensive and can be a very useful set of window blinds for you and your home, they are also quite plain and are not very aesthetically appealing. As spring arrives, it may be time to make the leap and invest in an upgrade for your window blinds.

Wood or faux wood window blinds are excellent choices for your windows that are both durable and aesthetically appealing. These two types of window blinds add a touch of class and tradition to your home. You can also get them in a wide variety of colors to suit your decor and the rest of the furnishings in your home.

Both wood and faux wood window blinds are more expensive than their aluminum counterparts. However, they are less prone to breaking or damage and are often more energy efficient than aluminum blinds. You will have greater control over the amount of light you let in and may even increase the value of your home by installing these more coveted blinds.

Change Your Draperies To Something Lighter

In the winter, the primary use for your draperies is to keep the interior of your home feeling warm and cozy. This means your draperies will be made of heavier duty materials and will also have a color palate that best suits the season (rich and deep colors). This is perfect for blocking out the cold and snow of the winter, but may not be so wonderful when spring comes along.

Spring is a naturally brighter more lively season than winter and you want your window treatments to reflect that style. Choose draperies that are lighter both in the materials used and the colors. Consider adding sheer draperies to your window treatments along with your UV filtering energy efficient blinds for example.

Having both sets of draperies up can give you more light filtering options. On a nice cool morning, you can have the draperies wide open or just the sheers pulled closed, but when the sun is beating in or at night, you can close both sets of draperies (as well as the blinds) for the best light blocking and privacy.

Now that you know a few of the ways that you can best update your window treatments for the spring, you can get started and have your home ready for spring in no time. Click for additional reading on window blinds.

Lawn Care Maintenance: A Year Round Effort

Most of us take great pride in our homes and do everything we can to ensure its beauty and comfort. While attending to our home's interior, we sometimes tend to neglect the lawn, especially during winter. Since moving into my "dream home" I feel compelled to maintain the lawn and garden as impeccably as I do the interior. That's why I've hired a lawn care team to see that my landscape is in tip-top shape all year round. I've learned the importance of fertilization during the late fall and early winter. Keeping the lawn trimmed during those cold winter months will help, too. The experts even help prepare my lawn for the upcoming spring. During this time, family celebrations and parties are plentiful, and I plan to have the best looking lawn on the block. I can't wait for spring to come!
